Our Blissful "Diva" Cat Georgie
(on my favourite quilt!)
Who better than a well loved, well cared for house cat to illustrate the desired state of "Bliss" . Our Diva cat Georgie spends her days in blissful ignorance of world events and our stressed out personal goings on. Maybe that explains why she is such a source of utter calm and joy in our, in my, life.
Georgie is Blissfully UnAware of everything except her food dish and my presence in her life, while we citizens of the world have a necessary awareness of local (meaning our personal lives as well as local community goings on) and world events which most times, leave us feeling melancholy at best and totally devoid of any joyful feelings at the worst.
I contend that this is a choice we make, a choice to allow this space around us to affect us so. When I retired I made a choice, better yet, a declaration to be "BLISSFULLY AWARE & UNABASHEDLY JOYFUL". To be "Blissfully Aware" is to be well informed therefore "Aware" but you make a mindful choice to not allow these events, happenings, confrontations or whatever to shut the door and stifle your ability to be blissful . And, to be "UnAbashedly Joyful" is to experience joy openly and not feel the need to be apologetic to anyone about it. We all have influences in our lives that confront and question us about our joy and insinuate it is not a natural state.
Well I say this is and can be for everyone a "natural state"! For now, try one little exercise. First, make a list of the things in your life that bring you joy and bliss for example, watching your children at play, spending an evening curled up with your spouse on the couch watching movies, walking in the park, your pets, great food and wine, travel, music, reading, creating artful things, remembering loved ones who are no longer with us (this might involve a few tears but in the end will result in joy), be alone with your thoughts and dreams, turn off the news........I think you get the idea. Now make a conscious effort to infuse at least one of these things in your daily routine. It's a start but it can only start if you make that first move.
I'm a very visual person - pastoral scenes lead me into a blissful state. Whereas Triple M enjoys turning the lights out in the livingroom, turning the stereo to high and listening to Ozzie Osborne and others. I don't get it myself but it works for him.
I know there are lots of you out there who have already caught on to this concept. Please take a moment and share with us (through this post's Comments) the ways you have you have brought being "Blissfully Aware and UnAbashedly Joyful" into your life.
I know I don't really need to say this but I like to end with "BEJOYFUL!!!!!!".
